Notes:
Do I have to book my rooms at the hotel?
Yes. Coaches should make reservations directly with the hotel. The tournament registration on this site does not include booking your rooms. The hotel has provided a special rate. To book call or email Chad directly at his details above.
Does the registration fee cover the hotel costs?
No, this is a separate cost that schools will pay.
How will we get from the hotel to the school each day?
Transport to and from the tournament each day is direct via the subway (TTC). The school is only seven stops from the hotel with a short walk either end. Journey time is approximately 30 minutes.
Is there billeting?
Yes. If you are coming from outside of North America, the organisers will billet students from Wednesday afternoon until Monday morning. Billeting will be arranged during Phase II of the registration.
Billeted students will either be delivered by their hosts or catch the subway.
How much will this event cost?
The registration fee per school is $1400 CAN. This fee includes the League membership fee, public transport tickets, the social activity, some meals and snacks.
All other costs including hotels rooms, and meals (including all breakfasts) are at the school/student’s own cost.
If I register during Phase 1, does that guarantee my school places in the tournament?
No, Phase 1 is an expression of interest. We will need to prioritize places based on past membership and participation. We do offer places for new schools each year but that depends on the scale of the tournament and which member schools are returning. Places will be confirmed with registered schools in April.
What if my students have special dietary requirements?
During Phase II registration you can notify us of any dietary requirements and we will make every attempt to accommodate them.
What will the weather be like in October?
Weather in October in Toronto is usually mild but sometimes there can be cold snaps. There will be walking outside during the tournament, so please refer to weather forecasts the week beforehand.
Do I need to have any vaccinations before attending the tournament?
No special vaccinations are needed. Cautious travellers may wish to consult their country’s travel health advisory for specific information.
Do I need a visa to enter Canada?
There have been recent changes to entry requirements for some countries. Please consult the Canadian Ministry of Immigration and Citizenship to determine if you require an electronic travel authorization (ETA) or travel visa to enter Canada.
How far is the hotel from the airports?
Toronto Pearson Airport
The hotel is approximately a 35 minute taxi ride from Toronto Pearson Airport. The fare will be about $55-60 per vehicle plus tip. Note that traffic varies greatly during the day and so the trip could take much longer.
There is a direct train, the UP Express from the airport to Union Station (downtown Toronto). From here the hotel is a five minute taxi ride or four short stops on the subway. A pre-booked return ticket is $24.70 per person. Student discounts are only available for students with the relevant Toronto discount card ID.
Billy Bishop Airport (Toronto Island)
Toronto has a small airport on Toronto Island, just off the downtown. Porter Airlines flies direct to this airport from Boston, New York, Montreal, Ottawa, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Washington DC. There is a quick, free bus for passengers that runs regularly between the airport and Union Station (downtown Toronto). The bus only takes a few minutes to get to Union Station where the subway can be accessed.
What days do I need to be in Toronto?
Tournament registration commences at 1:30 on the 25th October. If you are flying to Toronto, we strongly recommend that you arrive on the 24th as cancellation and delays would be extremely problematic for student participants.
The final banquet and awards ceremony is on the evening of the 28th, so we ask that you don’t travel home until Monday, 29th.
I plan to stay a few extra days either before/after the tournament. Where should I stay?
