Common questions about joining the League and participating in the annual tournament. When is the tournament taking place next year? We are currently looking for a 2023 host since our scheduled host had to step down. If we do not find a host in the next couple of months, we will consider our next steps and send an email out to members. Who is eligible to participate? Any independent school, anywhere in the world is eligible to join the League and participate. Every year one or two new schools join where there is space. Unfortunately space is limited and preference is given to member schools. There are currently 11 schools on the waiting list so it may take multiple years to obtain a spot. I'm a teacher/coach attending the tournament, what is my responsibility during the tournament? The tournaments are run by school volunteers. It is important that teachers/coaches representing a school will be present to assist with judging and overall supervision. It is expected that coaches are present at the tournament and with their students during the social events and field trips. I'm a student at an independent school, am I able to attend by myself? Schools register and students must be accompanied by their coach or school sanctioned adult chaperone. Individual students cannot participate. Do you have junior and senior divisions? No. Students of different grade levels (typically Grades 9-12) participate against each other. What is the general standard of participant? This is a high level tournament. Most students have auditioned at their individual schools and put in a great deal of preparation. This is not a tournament for novice public speakers. My school has completed Registration Phase 1 Intention to Participate, does this guarantee a place in the tournament? Unfortunately no. Preference is given to current member schools. |
